'St. Nicked'

Dec 2009
Photo-montage (above) of a spoof news
story of Father Christmas getting arrested.
The image was printed in CBD Alliance's
ECO Newsletter on Wednesday 16th Dec
at the Copenhagen Conference.

Tar-sands Ostrich

Dec 2009
Photo-montage (left) inspired by Diana of
the ETC Group.  Stephen Harper, PM of
Canada is strongly supporting the extraction
of heavy oil from the 'Tar-Sands' of Alberta.
It is the single most emissions-intensive project
in the world and Obama recently approved
a new pipeline to bring the oil to the US.
Canada is the biggest provider of oil to the US.
UK multinationals Shell and BP are heavily
involved in this ecocidal project too.

Golden Dragon

Nov 2009
Painted drape (above) of a golden dragon
for a good friend who has been very patient.
I started this a year ago... and... well... maybe
this is what happens when I am not given a
deadline.  I am working on a tiny stop-motion
film of the painting of this... one day.

Drowning mermaid

Nov 2009
Photo-montage (left) of the statue of the
Little Mermaid on the harbour-front in
Copenhagen.  The cola-fired power station
is really there, ironically.  I just added the
stormy waves and ominous clouds, as a
comment.  One of Canada's leading blogs,
Rabble.ca published it during their coverage
of the talks in Copenhagen.

'Let's look before we leap'

Nov 2009
Cartoon (above) for the ETC Group's declaration
at the Copenhagen conference which calls for
rigorous assessment of technologies before they
are sold / dumped on developing countries.
A PDF of the 2-page declaration, and related press
releases can be found on their website.

Valuable Natural Resources

Nov 2009
Simple graphic (left) that would make a great T-shirt
inspired by the wonderful words of Utah Phillips.
This phrase was recorded in a 'song'on the 1996
album 'The past didn't go anywhere', that Utah made
with help from Ani Difranco and her band.

New bike-trailer

Nov 2009
Photo (above) of my new bicycle-trailer that I made
recently.  Its 240cm long and 90cm wide and surprisingly
light.  It is also a ladder - hence the sturdy 'stern' base.
Larger items can lie on top and smaller bags and boxes
can rest lower in the hammock-net.  I used two front forks
from abandoned bicycles, and some wood (mostly FSC
or reclaimed) so  the total materials cost was only about
30 quid.  There are quite a lot of DIY bike trailer designs
online, and if you're interestedyou could start here.

BAe fishhook

Nov 2009
Cartoon logo (left) for the wonderful folks at Campaign
Against the Arms Trade
(CAAT).  It seems that the UK
Attorney General is about to decide whether BAe systems
(the UK's biggest arms-trafficker) should be investigated
over their alleged bribes and corruption.

'They will feed us'

Nov 2009
Cartoon (above) for the ETC Group's new report
called "Who will feed us?"   This cartoon appeared on
the back of the report, illustrating the answer to the
question that the report addressed.  PDFs of the report
and lots of other interesting information can be found
on their website.

Another Peace-up to save the world

Nov 2009
Photo-montage (left) for an invitation to a very special
drinks evening in London, bringing together lots of powerful,
rich and influential people to plan how to eradicate Nuclear
weapons from the whole world, soon, ...cool.  Surprisingly,
this image was not chosen for the invitation, ...but I like it.

'Don't be afraid to make mistakes'

Oct 2009
Cartoon (above) for Insight Share, a great team of
people working on 'Participatory Video' which, in a nutshell,
involves bringing film-making technology and skills to remote
(and often ignored) communities around the world.

Community participation

Oct 2009
Cartoon (left) for Insight Share.

Air Freightful

Oct 2009
Photo-montage (above) for a new report on
cargo aviation written and researched by Rose
Bridger of AirportWatch, published in December
2009.

You can download the full report, or a 5-page
summary, or the infoposter from their website.
On the left is a small view of the 'info poster'.

'Lifestyle Choice'

Oct 2009
Photo-montage (below) for the debut CD
of poetry and spoken word by the very
talented Danny Chivers.

techniques that accompanied a one-day training course
organised by the delightful folks at ReachAbility.

bring support to their week of actions against
the world's largest Arms Fair, DSEi.

A satirical poster / T-shirt design (above)
for the winning entry in ETC Group's
"Pie-in-the-sky" geo-engineering contest.

CO2AL: Issue No.1

April 2009
The front page (left) of an 8-page newspaper
for the amazing 'Coal caravan', a project of
the UK Camp for Climate Action.
The newspaper featured a centre-fold mini
info-poster (shown below) called the "A-Z of
Real Solution to Climate Chaos".  The full
newspaper is available here as an 8-page
1.1Mb PDF  The centre spread poster as a
800Kb PDF is here.

Verbal Remedies

April 2009
One is a series of posters (left) for Danny
and friends, on their national tour of radical
poetry / spoken word and acoustic music.
The tour was supported by the lovely New
Internationalist magazine, and raised funds
for the national student campaigning group
People & Planet.

D.I.Y. banner-making: Cheap & Fast!

November 2008
A short A5 (double-sided) hand out I wrote for the Shared Planet
conference in Birmingham, organised by People & Planet.  I ran a
workshop on 'Art in Activism' and had 50 keen participants.
Most of the workshop involved making 4 banners.
The links on the right are to a 'print-ready' PDF, and the text for
you to re-write and use in your own hand-out / email /
web-page / workshop, etc.

Right-click on a link and choose 'Save file as':

   D.I.Y. Banner-making PDF
presented 2-up as two A5 fronts on page one,
and two A5 backs on page two, of the A4 PDF.

   D.I.Y Banner-making TEXT
just as a simple text file to re-write and share.
